The Base Helicopter Price is given in that year’s US Dollars or Euros when noted, they are the prices in effect as of the specific model year of manufacture, but do not necessarily reflect the actual price paid by the purchaser at new delivery.
The values should be used for reference only, as they may have averaged for any prices changes during the year.
These prices do not account for any discounts, distributor or dealer profits, trade-in allowances, extra service or parts, options added above the “average,” or special financing arrangements that might have been made.
North American prices are used since historically North America has accounted for more than 50% of the entire marketplace.

Welcome to Perspectives: A Helicopter Resale History® compiling over thirty years’ worth of The Official Helicopter Blue Book® pricing data. The Official Helicopter Blue Book® historical pricing is from 1979 to present. Each data point combines all helicopter model years to show the helicopter models’ mean resale prices for the first calendar quarter of each year. No adjustments have been made to the values for inflation: All values are given in US dollars.
The value charts are the heart of blue book Persepctives page. The graphs show the resale value ranges for the Sikorsky S-76A / A+ / A++ as of the first calendar quarter of each year from 1979 to the present, as applicable. To keep the charts readable, each point represents the mean for the first calendar quarter of each year, regardless of the helicopter’s year of manufacture. Compared to the components’ service-life used, the age of the aircraft has little impact on its value. The values given do not include variables such as shipping or storage costs, maintenance or insurance, taxes or duties. No adjustments have been made for inflation: 1979 values are given in 1979 dollars, 1989 values in 1989 dollars, and so on through the present. All values are given in US dollars and are net retail prices.
The 3 lines represent the Low Time value, Mid Time value and High Time value as indicated in the key. A Low Time helicopter has roughly less than 20% time used, Mid Time is 50% and High Time is 20% or less remaining time on the Sikorsky S-76A / A+ / A++ major components.
Price spreads shown are based on the realities of then-current market scenarios. There are two major facts which become apparent: First, the helicopters have very extended economic and mechanical useful lives, and second, even in depressed economic times helicopters can resell for strong prices.
"Wholesale” values are not applicable to the helicopter market for two reasons: First, most new helicopters are sold by the manufacturers through their own sales representatives. As a result, there are few independent distributors to affect price variations. Second is the fact that, unlike used cars or used fixed-wing aircraft, there are few occasions where any quantity of helicopters have been bought, stored, and resold on a purely speculative basis. Since there are no dealer-to-dealer “wholesale” trades regularly made which fix reduced amounts to the resale prices, and no “dealer” network, a pricing structure does not exist for traceable “wholesale” values.

The components tab in The Official Helicopter Blue Book® list the intervals of major drivetrain helicopter components and Hourly Maintenance Costs (HMC).
The major (rotating) individual part or assembly which normally has a scheduled or historical removal interval. The general categories of airframe components are: Rotor blades, transmissions, flight controls, rotor heads, hydraulic systems, driveshafts, and engines with their major controls. service life limits, and whether the component is a retirement item or overhaul item. The major individual part or assembly which often has a scheduled or historical removal interval. The general categories of airframe components are: rotor blades, transmissions, flight controls, rotor heads, hydraulic systems and their driveshafts, major engine components and the engine themselves, along with their major controls.
Hourly Maintenance Cost (HMC) is the expense of running a helicopter’s major components for one hour. The HMC includes the parts and labor required for scheduled and unscheduled helicopter maintenance and helicopter inspections that are performed every twenty-five flight hours or greater. Maintenance intervals less than twenty-five flight hours are not considered.
HMCs are determined by computing the cost of each helicopter major-drive train component’s overhaul and retirement interval, with its associated labor costs, then dividing that sum by its allowable flight hours. The resulting per-hour costs are then totaled. HMCs are given as a range due to the variation of parts costs, transportation and labor charges, and discounts. Operators that do not employ in-house certificated maintenance technicians will likely have a higher HMC.

This data has been developed from a variety of sources. While we believe this information to be as accurate and correct as possible, we cannot assume responsibility or liability for any business transaction based on the use of this specification data. Any technical data presented is subject to change and it is not intended to substitute for any regulatory agency’s or helicopter manufacturer's appropriately authorized flight or maintenance manuals.
The information is divided into major categories; helicopter Engine, Power Rating, Transmission, Performance, Rotor, External Dimensions, Internal Dimensions, Accommodations, Weights, Fuel Capacity, Average Fuel Consumption, Range, Type Certificate Date Sheets, Milestones and Summary. Every effort is made to provide "apples to apples" comparability; when this is not possible, boldface footnotes are inserted to indicate otherwise or to add to the basic data presented. The definitions for each category are presented in the section marked "Specification Definitions," which immediately follows this section.
The English system was used to develop all numbers for U.S.-built helicopters and then converted to appropriate metric equivalents. Metric measurements were the first choice for European helicopters, and these were converted to the English system.
